Tour Itinerary
Explore our expertly designed itinerary below, crafted to showcase breathtaking views and provide unique adventures every step of the way.
Day 1: Cusco – Palccoyo Mountain – Pomacanchi Lake
Welcome to the start of your unforgettable two-day adventure. Our tour commences with a prompt hotel pick-up in Cusco, and from there, we head south. Upon reaching the quaint town of Combapata, we’ll embark on an unpaved journey to the base of Palccoyo Mountain. Here, our skilled chef kick-starts your day with a scrumptious, locally-sourced breakfast. Once you’re fueled and ready, our expert guide will brief you on the trek that awaits.
The hike to Palccoyo Mountain unfolds as a beautiful tapestry of vibrant landscapes and awe-inspiring geological formations. Not only will you witness the iconic color-striped mountains, but you’ll also discover a lesser-known attraction: the stunning stone forest. From this vantage point, you’ll catch panoramic views of the three colored mountains and the majestic Ausangate Mountain—the tallest in the Cusco region.
After soaking in the natural splendors of Palccoyo, we’ll descend to the starting point where a buffet lunch, prepared by our dedicated chef, awaits you. Your gastronomic experience will be complemented by the stunning backdrop of the Andean landscapes.
Next, we venture to the tranquil Pomacanchi Lagoon, where we’ll set up camp for the night. With depths reaching up to 140 meters, this lagoon is a sanctuary for trout and various other native fish species. You’ll have the afternoon free to explore the lagoon’s scenic shores, followed by a sumptuous dinner and a restful night in our well-equipped tents.

Hiking: Approx. 2-3 hours, 4 km
Day 2: Pomacanchi Lake – Waqrapukara – Huayqui – Cusco
Wake up to a scenic sunrise over Pomacanchi Lagoon, and fuel up with a hearty breakfast prepared by our chef. Shortly afterward, we’ll continue our journey, driving for approximately 30 minutes on a zigzagging unpaved road to reach Punta Carretera. Here, we’ll pause for final preparations before setting out on foot to discover Waqrapukara.
Our trek takes us through an ever-changing canvas of Andean landscapes, punctuated by high-altitude lakes known locally as “Cochas.” After a moderate hike, we’ll arrive at the Waqrapukara viewpoint, offering your first glimpse of this majestic Incan fortress. Snap some photos before we continue our descent towards this architectural marvel.
We’ll spend around an hour and a half exploring Waqrapukara, soaking in its rich history and enigmatic rock formations that overlook the Apurímac River Valley. You’ll also encounter remarkably well-preserved ancient rock paintings that serve as a testament to the area’s rich cultural heritage.
We start our descent towards the Huayqui Community, where otherworldly landscapes offer one last chance for awe-inspiring photos. Upon completing our trek, we’ll head back to Pomacanchi Lagoon for a mouthwatering lunch prepared by our fantastic chef.
After a fulfilling day, we embark on our return journey to Cusco. You can expect to arrive at your hotel by approximately 6:00 PM, bringing an end to your 2-Day Palccoyo Mountain & Waqrapukara Combo Tour—a trip you’ll remember for years to come.
