Cusco – Moray – Maras – Salt Mines – Chinchero – Cusco
Starting with a pick-up from your accommodation in Cusco, we’ll drive approximately one hour through the Sacred Valley’s picturesque landscape to reach the archaeological site of Moray. Here, the ancient terraces provide a glimpse into the Incan’s innovative agricultural techniques, with concentric circles designed to mimic different climatic zones.
A short drive from Moray brings us to our ranch, where our llamas or alpacas eagerly await your arrival. As you bond with these charming Andean animals, we’ll provide insights into their importance in local culture and their role in sustainable farming.
Setting off from the ranch, you’ll embark on a serene one-hour trek to Maras. This journey, set against the grand backdrop of the Chicon, Veronica, and Salkantay mountains, showcases the breathtaking beauty of the Andes at an elevation of over 3750 meters.
Next, we’ll take a brief drive to the Salineras salt mines. Here, the time-tested salt harvesting methods of the local community come to life, presenting a harmonious blend of nature and tradition.
For those wishing to experience local cuisine, we offer an optional lunch stop in the verdant Urubamba Valley (please note, lunch costs are not included).
Our day progresses with a 30-minute drive to the textile haven of Chinchero. Engage with skilled artisans as they demonstrate the art of Andean weaving, from the dyeing process to the intricate weaving techniques. This cultural immersion continues with a visit to the Chinchero archaeological site, highlighting the architectural marvels of the Incas.
Concluding our journey, we’ll drive back to Cusco, ensuring you return with a heart full of memories, an appreciation for Andean traditions, and the unforgettable experience of trekking with our delightful llamas or alpacas.
