Day 1: Cusco to Chocolate Lake via Huchuy Phynaya – A Journey to Serenity
Your excursion begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Cusco. A scenic 3.5-hour drive brings you to the quaint community of Huchuy Phynaya, where a nourishing breakfast, prepared by our skilled cook, sets the tone for the day ahead. As you embark on the trail, the first two hours of uphill hiking are rewarded with encounters of llama and alpaca herds against a backdrop of stunning landscapes.
The highlight of the day is the breathtaking Chocolate Lake. Upon arrival, you’re greeted with panoramic views that seem to transport you to another world. The lake, renowned for its unique cocoa-colored hue, presents a perfect opportunity for photography and exploration. Our knowledgeable guide will unravel the mysteries behind the mountain’s significance and the lake’s distinctive color.
Post exploration, a descent to the trailhead awaits where a sumptuous lunch is served. The day’s journey then leads to the Hanchipacha community, a 40-minute drive away. Here, your tents are set up for a comfortable night’s stay. As evening falls, enjoy a relaxing tea time followed by dinner under the stars, with the Milky Way painting the night sky.
